Ariel and Flynn

Flynn returned to his plate and tried to decide what to eat first. Ariel was right, Louie really did like to cook. He tried some of the pheasant, which was excellently roasted, then some of the soup, which turned out to be French-onion. It was some of the best food Flynn had ever eaten, maybe because he had been living off the land on his recent journeys. “This really is magnificent” Flynn said to Ariel, “your chef has quite the knack for cooking. I don’t think our chef in Corona could compare!” Even though Corona’s meals were just fine, Flynn was feeling a little jocular after the succulent draft of Cognac. As his cheeks flushed, he started to slow down and then slumped back in his chair with a sigh, “You know Ariel, I don’t think I could live here, because if Louis cooks three square meals a day, I would be in danger of bursting all my belts!”

Ariel smiled, giggling slightly as she reached to take a drink from her water glass. “Trust me, he doesn’t always put up a spread like this. I guess he wanted to impress the man who had heard of him before.” She winked at Flynn over her glass, certain that the flattery had lead to the large display Louis had put out. Granted, Ariel wasn’t one to complain — Louis had made a salad and several different things that didn’t contain meat, such as pastas and fruit dishes. Ariel filled her plate, giddy to try all of the new foods. She particularly liked the pasta, taking out another helping while continuing her conversation with Flynn. “What sorts of things do you do in your kingdom?”

Ariel and Peter

“Well gee, I don’t know.” He floated back up into the air then, pointing down at her whistle, “You’re the one who called me here.”

Ariel looked down at the whistle in her hand, feeling guilty. He was right, after all. “Um.” Ariel thought, wrapping her fingers around the whistle once again. “Would you want to come back to the castle with me?” She asked, looking up at the floating boy with a smile.

A wide grin spread out along Peter’s face, “Well sure!” He giggled and flew towards Ariel, landing down in front of her. “Is it as big as the treehouse?”

“Bigger.” she grinned up at Peter mischeviously. Then, knocking her head towards the direction of the castle, she started walking. “C’mon.” The sand between Ariel’s toes was a feeling she wouldn’t trade for the world. It felt like home, like something she’d wanted her whole life. The breeze whipped her fire-engine red hair to the side as she walked back towards the castle, thinking of what the pair could do.

Return

Eric walked with stride into the main sitting room of the castle with a small plate of food in his hand. Apparently Grimsby was paying attention to his travels and knew he was coming home today. Lucky he knew Eric would be hungry and told Louie to make him a small meal. He looked over the see the couch and his wife sitting down and reading a book. He quietly walked over and saw that she was reading a book on facts about the world. He cleared his voice and spoke. “You know that thing might be out of date, turns out the world is round.”

Ariel turned around in confusion at the voice, knowing it didn’t belong to Grimsby or really any of the male servants she’d come to know around the house. She took in the tall stature of Eric in his sailor garb, looking tired but glad to be home. Then it hit her — Eric was home. Her expression quickly melted into one of joy as the book fell from her hands and into the floor. She turned and launched herself at Eric, ignoring the plate he was holding. Standing on the couch, her arms wrapped tightly around Eric’s neck, her face near her ear. “You’re home,” she whispered in disbelief and relief, soaking in the idea of her husband being home at long last.

Return

followhervoice:

Eric stumbled into the house totally worn out from his long voyage to the new America. Not only did he have to cross an entire Ocean twice but he also had to get caught in the middle of a debate between an Indian chief and the people of James Town. Lucky for him the princess came and made peace quickly. He walked into the castle not expecting a big welcome due to the fact that he didn’t tell anyone he was here. All he really wanted was to see his wife…six months is a really long time to be apart.

Ariel was walking through a part of the palace, a book in her hands as her feet hit the cold tile floors. It was a book she’d gotten from the book shop in town and she was hoping to learn some more about the human world from it. After all, so many things were still new, reading could help, right? Ariel walked into one of the main hall areas, finally deciding to plop into one of the couches that lined the walls in order to read. She sighed, looking at the reflective tiles, the tall ceilings and the large windows looking out onto a dreary day.

Her mind wandered to how cold and lonely the castle felt without Eric here. He always livened the place up. Without him, it seemed as if the castle had no soul and Ariel often wandered the rooms, trying to find something new to occupy her. Sometimes she worried Eric wouldn’t come back. Sending letters was difficult and, especially this time, he’d been gone for a while. To try and ease the growing knot in her stomach, Ariel laid against one arm of the sofa and opened her book, her eyes scanning along the rows of words on the pages.

“Cause I like you,” Peter dropped to the ground and smiled even brighter then.

Ariel couldn’t help but let her eyes soften, looking at Peter. “You’re so silly.” she said, a smile breaking across her face. She bit her lip, bouncing on her toes a little. “So, what do you want to do?”

Flynn @ Ariel

“Oh, Eric plays flute.” Ariel said, shifting her skirts slightly and grinning at Flynn. Her eyes saddened slightly at the thought. Eric had been away on business for a very long time and she missed his presence. The bed was empty without him, the castle lifeless. She missed his flute playing, as it was always a sweet melody, one she’d fallen asleep to when he took her out to sea with him. Grinning once again at Flynn, she tried to hide her sadness. After all, she did have a friend here and now. Just then, a servant came in, telling the pair that dinner was ready. “Shall we go?” she asked Flynn, standing up and starting to leave. “I bet Louis made something delicious.”

So Eric was a musician as well as a sailor and a prince, he had quite the repertoire. Flynn noticed, even though she smiled, a shadow briefly cross Ariel’s face, but before he could ask what was the matter, dinner was announced and they were escorted to the dining room. When they reached the room, Flynn stopped for a moment in sheer awe. Corona’s castle was lovely with its elegant stonework, but it’s dining hall was nowhere as splendid as this. The builders had forgone stone walls and instead opted to have massive floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the ocean. Such was the architecture and height of the room that it made you feel as if you were on a great ship out at sea. The garçon made a slight cough which brought Flynn to his senses and proceeded to usher Flynn to his seat. He had no sooner sat down and smoothed the wrinkles out of his vest when a small parade of sous-chefs started making their way to the table encumbered with platters bearing quail and fowl, dishes filled with salads and gravies, bowls brimming with soup and pitchers of crimson wine. Flynn noticed a lack of seafood and remembered that that was most likely at Ariel’s request. But surely all this food couldn’t be for just the two of them. Flynn leaned over to Ariel, “Are you sure it’s just the both of us, or are you expecting more guests?” Flynn half hoped he would be able to meet the master of the castle soon.

Ariel smiled, chuckling slightly at Flynn’s reaction. She’d have thought that, after all he was a prince, he’d be used to everything. One of the servants pulled out a chair for Ariel and she sat across from Flynn, thanking the servant as he left. She watched the food come out, still grimacing at the grilled animals but at least thankful Louis had finally stopped cooking fish. She knew that others still ate meat, so she was content. After everything was laid out, she grinned, her eyes skimming the able at the new things she had yet to try as a human. Her train of thought was broken by Flynn’s question. “Yes, it is just us,” she said with a giggle. “Louis just really likes to cook.” Ariel began to dish herself out some salad while gesturing to other steaming dishes in front of them. “Go ahead and help yourself. Louis really does make some good meals.” She smiled kindly at Flynn. She really enjoyed his company. The castle had been terribly lonely since Eric’s departure a few weeks ago.

Online for a bit. Last day of classes tomorrow!

Flynn @ Ariel

Even though he hadn’t played in a while, Ariel assured him it was wonderful. “Do you play anything else?” she asked. “Not really,” Flynn replied. The harpsichord was beautiful, and Corona’s castle had nothing like it, and had he still been a thief, Flynn would have considered taking it off the castle’s hands, but thanks to Rapunzel, that was behind him now.”I haven’t had a lot of time to practice music. Since my inclusion to the royal family, I’ve had to learn all sorts of etiquette. Though I’m making sure they don’t change me too much.” He added throwing Ariel a wink. “I couldn’t help noticing that there is a lot of music here written for flute, do you know anything about that?”
